The Spate POV
In case you haven’t heard, Spate now has TikTok data. We’re excited to continue watching ways the platform's virality augments consumer searches and vice versa. Some of the latest on #beautytok? Colorful mascara and dolphin skin.
It's been a while since an eyeliner trend has topped our list, whether on search or TikTok, and it seems like consumers are turning to lashes for a pop of color. Recently, colorful mascara has been pushing the boundaries of creativity, and we're observing a rise in interest for both red mascara (+28.0% YoY) and white mascara (+18.1%). With unlimited shades to choose from, existing mascara brands have plenty of opportunities to expand their product lines. However, it's worth noting that colorful mascara is currently a low volume search trend. The question remains: will this TikTok trend eventually gain popularity in search?
Eeeek eeeek! Dolphin skin is a new beauty trend where one layers highlighters, facial oils, and serums to create a radiant, dewy, dolphin-esque complexion. This trend is a clear indication of how the beauty industry's emphasis has shifted from skincare to complexion makeup. While dolphin skin is down -27.4% YoY in Google searches, if this trend continues to gain traction on TikTok, we might see an increase in the availability of dewy complexion products, which could benefit no-makeup makeup brands such as Glossier, Merit, and Westman Atelier.
