Fortunately, the sunscreen market has evolved significantly from having only a few coconut-scented drugstore options. Nowadays, we have many choices, including different types of sunscreen (mineral vs. chemical), varying levels of protection, and an array of formats to choose from. Currently, the top-growing sunscreen formats in search in the US are roll on and stick.

Applying sunscreen can be a real pain, especially if you’re already in the “I hate lotion” camp. But sunscreen in a convenient roll on format? Now, that’s a real game-changer. Roll on sunscreens are experiencing a remarkable +61.3% YoY growth, with top volume search queries including roll on sunscreen, sun bum roll on sunscreen, and roll on zinc sunscreen. We aren’t surprised to see sunscreen sticks rising to the top, as many of our favorite makeup products have also found their way into a convenient stick format (eyeshadow sticks, blush sticks, etc.). The top volume search queries for stick alongside sunscreen are sunscreen stick, shiseido stick, supergoop glow stick, sunscreen stick for face, and isntree sunscreen stick. And the top growing brands for the sunscreen stick are Shiseido, Supergoop!, Neutrogena, and Isntree. The love for sunscreen sticks (+40.4% YoY) doesn’t stop in the US either; this trend is also growing +8.2% YoY in South Korea.
