As more and more people look to hydrate and soften their skin (because, let’s face it, nobody wants reptilian scales), there’s a noticeable surge in the availability of moisturizing products in the market. And this trend doesn’t stop at lotions alone—there’s a surge in the popularity of body oils and serums too. Presently, the most rapidly growing body moisturizing products in terms of searches include glycolic body lotion and vanilla lotion.

Similar to glycolic skincare, glycolic body lotion aids in skin exfoliation, resulting in a smoother and softer complexion. Right now, the top benefits searched alongside glycolic body lotion are smoothing, skin renewal, and exfoliating, revealing what’s top of mind for consumers. There are currently five market leaders: Drunk Elephant, Alpha Skincare, Glytone, Pixi Beauty, and Nip + Fab. Interestingly, the top retailer frequently associated with glycolic body lotion is Walmart. Brands should keep in mind that consumers are looking for premium products at an accessible price point and retailer.

Vanilla lotion is currently experiencing a +29.8% YoY growth and 4.7K average monthly searches. The top benefits searched alongside vanilla lotion are moisturizing, fresh, hydrating, healing, soothing, and intensive. There are currently 10 market leaders, including Bath & Body Works, Victoria's Secret, Hempz, and Eos. The top retailers searched alongside vanilla lotion are Sephora, Boots, and Walmart, indicating that consumers are interested in finding a vanilla lotion in a variety of retailers and price points. Vanilla may be a basic scent, but for good reason, as so many of us associate body lotion with the scent of vanilla.
